Avalon Beach Fill Update

#60 January 10, 2010,On Friday, January 8th, the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company presented the low bid of $10.406 Million for a beach fill to be done in Sea Isle City & Avalon. Sea Isle City will pay $5.9 million for the project, while Avalon's share will be $4.5 million.

"I am very pleased with the bid presented by Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company," said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. "The bid will enable both communities to conduct a major emergency beach nourishment project this year that will provide both a protective and recreation beach for this summer, and beyond."

Avalon is expected to receive approximately 500,000 cubic yards of sand that will be placed on beaches from 9th Street south to 26th Street; Sea Isle City will receive approximately 700,000 cubic yards of sand that will be placed on beaches between 73rd to 94th Street. This major beach fill project will occur during the Spring of 2010 and should be completed in time for the 2010 summer season. I will certainly update you as additional details become available.
